The newsletters were written by Pam Marshalla when she was beginning a private practice, was traveling nation-wide presenting workshops on oral-motor therapy, and was teaching at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana campus. This newsletter was the first major project undertaken by her company, Innovative Concepts. Its publication marked the company's inception as a business in the field of speech and language therapy. It was an innovative idea and the first such newsletter of its kind. Marshalla Speech and Language, Pam's second company, reprints it now for its historical value and because speech-language pathologists continue to ask for it. Pam Marshalla apologizes in advance for these flaws and asks the reader to remember that she was writing and designing the newsletters by herself as a young professional without the help of copy editors or graphic designers. This newsletter began on a manual typewriter written at a dining room table. It improved in quality over the years as her writing, editing and designing styles evolved and as she moved from manual typewriters to Apple computers.
