The late-'90s explosion of Latin pop into the American mainstream was one of the most important music industry developments of the decade. That development is both personified and underlined by the Latin Grammys. There's an established history of discs featuring the American Grammy nominees, but this inaugural Latin Grammy disc gets a new tradition off to an auspicious start. Naturally, it features some of the most high-profile artists and biggest hits of the Latin pop world, including the ubiquitous "La Vida Loca" (Ricky Martin), and the sensual, insinuating Marc Anthony ("Dimelo [I Need to Know]"). However, there are other faces of Latin pop slightly less iconic but equally commanding who make appearances here, including Zizi Possi and Carlos Vives, and its this combination the fresh and the familiar that gives 2000 LATIN GRAMMY NOMINEES much of its appeal.
