A distant relative and an awful actor, Olaf is determined to claim the fortune willed to Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, whose parents died in a mysterious fire. Enigmatic author Lemony Snicket (Jude Law) recounts the adventures of the three children as they change hands from the conniving Olaf to the reptile-loving Uncle Monty (Billy Connolly) to Aunt Josephine (Meryl Steep), who lives in fear of just about everything. An adaptation that condenses the first three books in the series--THE BAD BEGINNING, THE REPTILE ROOM, and THE WIDE WINDOW--into one installment, the film captures the darkly humorous tone of the popular children's novels by Lemony Snicket (AKA Daniel Handler). Carrey clearly has fun with his intentionally over-the-top role as the villain, while the young actors embody their resourceful characters wonderfully. The true star of the film, however, may be the production design of Rick Heinrichs (SLEEPY HOLLOW), which creates a visually stunning world filled with gothic mansions and ramshackle houses. By keeping the heart of the eccentric books intact, A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS proves to be an usually inventive and quirky Hollywood film. Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...This movie was garbage i was at least expecting it to be good as harry potter. I read the books to my nephew i didnt like it at all but i thought the plot was good and i thought it would be a enjoyable film to watch. i was wrong this movie is short and they rushed through it just to get it released near the holidays there is so much more that can be done with this movie that would make it a whole...

Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...I didn't care much for the books but I quite enjoyed this. Maybe it was Jim Carry's over-the-top performance, maybe it was the funny baby, maybe it was Jude Law's witty sense of humor but I thought it was simple but quite fun. Nothing extrodanary but even the fact that I enjoyed it was great for me. I probably enjoyed it more than the books.

Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...Carrey was just Carrey. Not impressive is his roles but did nothing to take away from the overall story. The young lead actress was impressive. Overall the story made little sense and had huge holes. Being based on the books that might be expected but the attempt to take three stories and combine them into one cohesive movie failed. It might have been better just covering them as 3 seperate but...

Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...Entertaining family fare. If you thought Jim Carrey ate the scenery in Grinch, check him out as Count Olaf. There's scenery splattered all over his face like a kid's face after all-you-can-eat rib night at Chili's. That doesn't mean he wasn't funny -- he was great. On the whole, the acting and scenery was splendid. I particularly liked Baby Sunny, whose talent was "biting things." Her subtitled...

Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...An okay movie, but if you've read the books, be warned: this movie doesn't follow the series the right way at all. It only follows the first three, and the events are all out of order. Plus, I think they made it a little too goofy. But other then that it was good.

Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...Great for kids, and not too sugary for adults; great for family viewing. Based on the series written under the pen-name "Lemony Snicket", the movie covers at least the first few books (I haven't read them, though the few excerpts I have read reflects the same charming style as in the movie) about the adventures of the Baudelaire children-turned-orphans, and the eccentric Count Olaf who sought to... Paramount Pictures Lemony Snicket's A Series of...
This movie was terrible for young kids - it freaked mine out (ages 6, 4, 3)! Too many scary things. It might work for the 10 and older crowd. Overall, the movie was depressing - downer after downer as the title implies. J.C. had some terrific acting, but I regret renting this one.
