Descripción

September 1942. The German Army has advanced to the gates of Stalingrad. The Russian Army holds on desperately. It is so poorly equipped that every pair of soldiers is given a single rifle--the second man only gets the weapon when the first is cut down. Trapped in no man's land between the opposing armies, Russian recruit Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law) finally acquires a rifle from Political Officer Danilov (Joseph Fiennes). Danilov is astonished when Zaitsev picks off several German officers. On their return to the Russian lines, Danilov writes about Zaitsev's exploits in the army newspaper. Zaitsev is assigned to a sniper unit. He kills more German officers and, thanks to Danilov, becomes a hero. In retaliation, the Germans bring in sharpshooter Major König (Ed Harris) from Berlin--to hunt Zaitsev. The two snipers engage in a desperate duel, as the appalling Battle of Stalingrad rages. In ENEMY AT THE GATES, director Jean-Jacques Annaud uses a palate of dull greens, blues, and greys to tell the powerful, true story of Russian sniper Vassili Zaitsev. The film is distinguished by fine performances from Law, Fiennes, Rachel Weisz as a female soldier, and Bob Hoskins as Nikita Khrushchev--with Harris particularly notable as the chilly, aristocratic König.

Enemy at the Gates Blu-ray Disc

Okay, so maybe the love triangle was a little contrived and annoying, but overall this was a good movie. I thought Jude Law and Ed Harris were especially good in their respective roles. The story of a Russian sniper was particularly interesting to me, as was the terror and insanity of the Battle of Stalingrad. If you ever get a chance to play the Russian part of the game "Call of Duty" you can...

So close to perfect. It is so unique. Not many movies about snipers can be seen in stores. Rachel Weiss, Jude Law, and Ed Harris were fantastic.

I am a big fan of war movies and sniper stories,so I am subjective on this one.The 4-th star is for the subjectivity.Production and settings-great.Acting-great.Casting-gre... harris and bob hoskins are among my favorite actors).A lot of criticism went to the love scene, but I thought it is good taste and realistic.the screenplay-average,historical inaccuracies are there, and there are elements...

while interesting and well done, the love scenes where totally unecessary, and the movie itself is very dark and disturbing.

Enemy at the Gates Blu-ray Disc

The action scenes were decent, but the film wasn't historically accurate. Zaitsev never engaged ia a duel with a "Major Koning". Koning was a figment of Soviet propaganda.

Gets high marks for production value and acting. The movie was tedious at times and included some material not necessary to the overall story. Ed Harris and Jude Law are extremely good but one thing that really annoyed me was the voicework. If I closed my eyes it sounded like the British were defending Stalingrad and not the Soviets. Nearly all of the main characters sounded british. A small...

Enemy at the Gates Blu-ray Disc

Out of the abounding war flicks out there, this one stands out to me because it tells a rarely told story. Focusing on the Battle of Stalingrad, it deals with one of the most important battles of the war, one often overlooked and never dealt with in Hollywood. While it is a little slow-paced, it's certainly intriguing. They did a terrific job recreating the horrific, bloody battles and the...

Enemy at the Gates Blu-ray Disc

Not for everyone, but this is a great film. It takes place during World War II and is about 2 snipers, on opposite sides, who play a cat and mouse game trying to kill each other. But that's not the whole movie. There are some nice war sequnces as well as a couple of sub-plots. Jude Law and Ed Harris top the cast list as the 2 snipers. Great performances, and an excellent film.

Enemy at the Gates Blu-ray Disc

Yeah, it's a little slow going, but it's a SNIPER movie, so that's to be expected. It brings up topics of WWII that weren't really talked about in school as much. Well-made, good acting, excellent settings, overall quite decent.
