Descripción

This modern fantasy stars Anthony Hopkins as William Parrish, a wealthy New York City media mogul who suffers a heart attack on the eve of his 65th birthday; although he survives, he senses that his death is near. On the same day, Parrish's younger daughter, Susan (Claire Forlani), meets a handsome young stranger (Brad Pitt) at a neighboring coffee shop and is instantly smitten. As they part, the young stranger is killed and his body is occupied by Death, who is coming to Earth to warn Parrish that his death is, indeed, imminent. Death enters the Parrish household disguised as Joe Black, the handsome stranger, and although Parrish understands Death's intentions he lets the family believe that Joe Black is a young business associate. Susan is shocked to find the familiar young man at her family dinner that evening, and, as she begins a passionate love affair with the debonaire stranger, she has no idea that she has fallen not for the young stranger from the coffee shop but for Death himself. In an effort to prolong his life and his daughter's happiness, William agrees to take Joe on a tour of human life that includes board meetings, family parties, and, ultimately, romance. As long as Joe falls in love, Parrish remains alive. This version was inspired by the Alberto Casella play DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY and the subsequent 1934 film.

One of my favorite movies

Puntos Fuertes: +good performances from Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt +Great to look at (both sets and actors/actresses); Claire Forlani's sparkling/twinkling eyes are so sexy.

Puntos Débiles: -Claire Forlani's acting isn't good during the quietier, dramatic scenes.

Call me sappy or a romantic but I fell in love with this movie the first time I watched it on video. I try to catch it when I know it's playing on tv. I even bought the dvd (this from a guy who doesn't own many dvds). Early on we have Bill Parrish (Hopkins) giving his daughter Susan (Forlani) a lecture on love (it's passion, obsession) and how her current relationship lacks excitement. Then Susan...

Loved it

I never watched it until it came on TV and my dad said it was good. He's was right. I liked the plot and the romance enhanced it. All the acters did a good job.

Meet Joe Black [DVD] [Widescreen] [1999] [1 disc]...

This actually could've been a good movie with a good editor--actually, ANY editor would do. As good as the concept was, there were scenes that dragged on endlessly with no purpose whatsoever. Just killed any momentum that movie might have had. I recommend watching this movie, but only with your finger on the fast forward button.

Meet Joe Black [DVD] [Widescreen] [1999] [1 disc]...

Worth three stars simply for the scene where Brad Pitt takes a stroll across a busy street and is immediately slammed into by a car, his body thrown like a rag doll only to fall in the path of another car. I like Brad Pitt, but I could watch that scene for hours.

Meet Joe Black [DVD] [Widescreen] [1999] [1 disc]...

I enjoyed this film. The length could have been cut a bit I think though. It's a rather bleak story, with Pitt playing Death, who enters the life of Hopkins telling him his time is up, but delays the innevitable for a tour of his life. They end up best buddies. This film is charming with a bittersweet tale of life and death. Plenty of tears along the way, with a few added smiles. I recommend this...

Didn't see the whole movie. Let's see... Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. Pitt didn't act well next to Hopkins. Pitt's ego seemed to overshadow his character.

Before I begin, if you don't like Brad Pitt and you are going to mark this as "Not Helpful". Then what the hell are you doing searching for material related to him? This movie was great! Simply the best, it is long but when it is Brad Pitt who cares. This is another good movie, I love the soundtrack as well! Brad if your reading this...(yeah right...), but really he is a great actor....

Meet Joe Black [DVD] [Widescreen] [1999] [1 disc]...

I caught this one last night on cable. Probably not the best place to see it for the first time because, with commercial interruption, it moves even slower than you might experience in a theater. And, whatever else “Meet Joe Black” is it is certainly and without a doubt a slow paced movie. Anthony Hopkins still manages to shine in several scenes and Brad Pitt gleams with a magnetic...

Although I dodn't care for thw woman actress(the name leaves me), I was impressed by the portrayal of Death by Brad Pitt, and of course Sir Anthony Hopkins is always good. I reccomend this film. Porbably wouldn't want to watch it more than once or twice though.
