The young playwright who at the start of the film is experiencing writer's block bursts forth with a lyrical text inspired by the lovely and passionate Viola. Ultimately this film is about the making of a great play, but most importantly it is about the power of words. Shakespeare in Love Collector's Series DVDI was prepared to like this movie because I like Shakespeare and I had enjoyed Gwyneth Paltrow's performance in "Emma". Instead I was disappointed in this movie as I found it a real snoozer. Gwyneth Paltrow's acting in this role was just OK, and not Oscar-worthy-maybe folks are right and she got the Oscar because of her connections.

Shakespeare in Love Collector's Series DVDMore like Shakespeare in lust. Yes, it had a few similarities to “Romeo and Juliet” the love story it was supposed to have (fictionally) inspired; but it lacked so much more. It was too swift, too jerky and just ever so smarmy. Except for the costumes and sets this was an extremely forgettable piece of frivolous nonsense.

Shakespeare in Love Collector's Series DVDI thought this was a really good movie. I'm not much of a fan of romance type movies, but this one I liked. Everyone in the movie does a great job and the story is both interesting and funny.
