Expensive And Not Sturdy

I bought this product a couple of years ago. I dropped it after having it for only 7 months and the top does not click back on. I have tried everything to find a repair for this with no luck. I can still use it by holding the cover on as I shave. It is a pain. I have been using Norelco products for 30 years and I have never had an experience like this. I have dropped other Norelco's and they still worked. Since I am having bad luck trying to get it fixed, I am thinking of changing brands to the self cleaning electric razor by Remington. I have heard very good things about it and the blades last longer and it does not look as flimsy as the 8898XL.

I have been a Noreloco Rotary Shaver user for many years. This model has been upgraded to assure very close, non-irritating shaves. It is very quiet, charges rapidly, with long battery life. A great reliable product. I highly recommend this improved model.

This top of the line Norelco has some very neat features:



Sensitivity settings - controls the spring tension under the heads - you will easily notice the difference.

VERY quiet.


The comfort settings are nice - I use the Normal setting during the week, taking my time and getting a baby smooth shave. On the weekends I use the Sensitive setting - making for a very quick shave, but not as close. You can use the sensitive setting, and after a few passes over the same area, end up with a super smooth shave, however.

I really liked the cleaning feature on the Syncro - it made the shaver look great and smell terrific. So, for the Spectra, after cleaning, I use Remington Shaver Saver Spray, which leaves a very similar scent (to the Syncro cleaner) and keeps the shaver lubed and running properly. So, if you are hesitant to switch because of the cleaner, fear not. The Shaver Saver spray is a great substitute.

The shave can be perfect, once you find the right method for your particular beard. I take my time, make a couple of passes, then go in a circular motion over my entire face, feeling for any residual stubble. This shaver has not created ANY irritation after multiple passes. It does not leave strays or longer stubble, and because of the head design, you can move it in any direction without risking razor burn. I shaved with a Gillette razor for the past 20 years - always with the grain to avoid burn and bleeding. This Spectra shaves my tough beard against the grain, making it baby smooth, and very comfortable. It is worth every penny. 5 stars!

I purchased this from Amazon at an incredible price. It was at $139.99 and I also used the $30.00 rebate, so I got it for dirt cheap at $109.99 with free shipping. The thing is a beaut. The demo mode rules. It's the closest thing next to a regular razor, but once your skin becomes accustomed to the electric, it's pretty darn close. If you want an electric shaver with all the bells and whistles, this is the one to get. You won't be disappointed.

This is almost the top grade of Norelco razors. Very fancy looking and raze quite smoothly and quietly. I ordered it from amazon with 30$ rebate, but it is still quite expensive. It is nice to be water proof, and the cleaning is a lot easier.

Norelco (Phillips) produces fine electric trimmers and shavers. I own both the Norelco 8894XL and the Norelco T990 and love both of them as I sport a beard at times. The quality, 60 day guarantee, and the 2 year warranty make this Norelco a good invetment. The only extra costs recommended are the replacement of the shaving heads, which amounts to about $40 a year.

This razor has it all. Though the new Remington razor has Titanium blades that supposedly last longer, they are supposed to be replaced about once a year, just as the 8894XL. Norelco's lift and cut system is truly effective, and not only gives a better shave but also does it in less time. I have heard stories of terrible abrasions when switching from disposable to electric, but I have had none. The sensitivity adjustor is not that necessary but a great feature nonetheless. The best part is that the razor does all the thinking for you. It tells you how much battery life is left in minutes, when to clean the razor, and when to replace the blades. I highly recommend this razor, especially from amazon.com, which at one point offered it at 139.99, a steep decline from the over 200.00 retail value.

When I started to shave as a teenage, I used a Norelco rotary electric razor. After about a year I stopped becasue cleaning it was a pain and it irritated the heck out of my neck. I then switched over to a blade (a Trac-II in those days) and didn't look back for over 25 years. Recently, my skin (my neck again) became too sensitive for the blade and I started to look at an electric razor. I tried the Braun Synco 7000 series, but although it didn't irritate my neck, it didn't do a very good job shaving either. After about a year of using the Braun I gave up and went for the Norelco. This razor shaves much closer than the Braun and although it irritated my neck on the most sensitive setting, that seems to have resolved itself as my skin got used to the razor. I am now very happy with this razor. Although it is expensive it works great. There are some less expensive Spectra models which are similar, but have less battery time and limited display.

Comment coming from the girlfriend: Very nice shaver because it's the closest shave he's had in a long time compared to the older norelco 6000 series. Though he's gotten closer shave with a Mach, the quickness of the shave itself gets him out of the bathroom (less than 2 mins!) which by far is one the best benefits of all. Rubbing cheek to cheek is definitely more pleasurably and shadow is less noticeable at the end of the day.

Too strong for my face. It will not charge at 240v stopping after 6 seconds and resetting to 0. The sensitivity dial is too small to read. the cap falls off easily. The blade holder comes off easily. The stand is not secure. The carrying case is too small.

I believe I've found the razor that tops it all. It's only been 2 days and I've put it to good use. The price isn't too bad since you figure this will last quite awhile. My last Norelco has been in my posession for at least 8 years so an average price of $200 over another 8 years is well worth the money.

My shave is as close as you're going to get with an electric shaver. The ease of using this is by far the best feature. I clocked shaving in under 2 minutes and cleaning is as easy as running it under the water with no need to pick hairs out or anything.

Plus the razor just looks so darn nice!
