Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & Beyondi am so sick of u2. Living in Ireland, bono is constantly in the papers, on the tv, everywhere you look. They just played 4 concerts to approx 250,000 people about 5% of the countrys population saw them last weekend. Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & BeyondI loved this album when it came out. Little did I know that songs like "With or Without You" dealt with heady topics like Crucifiction and not getting stood up on a date, which I originally thought. Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & BeyondThe Joshua Tree has got some awesome songs on it. While I enjoy the first half more than the second, "Mothers Of The Disappeared" (that's the title, right?) is really moving. Bono is such a great lyricist. "Bullet the Blue Sky" is majorly underrated, and "In God's Country" is one of the best songs of the 80s, in my opinion. Neither of the two number one singles are particular favorites of mine, and I believe that "Achtung Baby" was the band's best album. But this record is so packed with politics, great music and amazing lyrics...well, how could you not love it? Take care, everyone! ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & BeyondOne of the few LP's to have an atmosphere. The album plays like a very immediate black and white movie. It has the personal feeling through sweeping observations in addition to personal lyrics. While rating my personal Top 50 albums of all time, this got a lofty number 3. To hear the songs and restraint (something rare for musicians) is remarkable. This is a slice of time. Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & BeyondAny one that would give this album a one star is not really listening to what has been done. Without a doubt this is the best album of the eighties and one of the top ten albums ever made. I wasn't even a fan of U2 when this album came out, but after listening to it several times something happened. Everytime I listened to it afterwards it got better and better. If it wasn't for the jerks trying to bring it down just by voting with one star it would be at the top or very near the top. I don't believe that anyone who listens to this album completely through ten times can come away from it and not think that it is a true masterpiece. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & BeyondAlthough I got way over U2 with Achtung Baby and all the midlife crisis crap that fllowed (sorry Bono) but "Unforgettable Fire" and "Joshua Tree" hold strong as worthy 80's poetry and sound. Though short, only 11 songs, the album is full of haunting music- The Edges superb guitar playing, Bono's wail. Everytime I hear this CD, it is as if I am hearing it for the first time again, amazed at what beautiful music they make. This is my favorite of all U2 CD's. In terms of preference that is one of my favorite songs ever and my most favorite U2 song. The reason I give it a three is mainly because of that one song. Ask me that when I was 17 and in this corn field outside of Syracuse, NY one afternoon prior to going into the Carrier Dome to see the band perform on the tour supporting this record? I would have choked down the last half of my can of Old Milwaukee and told you that you were fu**in crazy if you could name a better album than 'The Joshua Tree'. I can no longer drink Old Milwaukee, still use expletives like a teenage boy and really enjoy the merits of this record, but am not sure it is the best ever. 'Red Hill Mining Town' still reminds me of an old girlfriend. When I get together with my budies from high school, one story that we will always re-visit is that U2 concert. I have pictures of me posing with the actual record... This was the breakout album fo rthe band. It was great to see them finally get noticed and some acclaim as I was a fan since I first heard 'War' as an 8th grader. Not a bad song on the entire album. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Afterburn: Wax Trax-94 & BeyondJoshua Tree is easily one of U2's best CDs (along with War, Unforgettable Fire, and Achtung Baby). U2 has really impressed me with its longevity and musical evolution - Joshua Tree, for example, sounds very different than both Boy (recorded in the early 80s) and Zooropa (mid 90s), but all three CDs are good. And Joshua Tree is one of those rare CDs that doesn't have a bad song - I can't think of a single one I don't like. The song "Running to Stand Still," which you never hear on the radio, is probably my favorite, but the entire CD is great. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Canada Sucks - well this could be in anyone's 80s top 10, but only because that decade is without a doubt rock and pop's lowest point. This rate's as a 3 star album not because there's much great about it but because there were considerably worse bands and albums then e.g. the glossy UK pop of Nick Kershaw and Spandau Ballet etc, the entire US hair metal scene, big hair rock ballads, Pat Benatar, Bon Jovi ..you get my drift.
