I bought it as a birthday gift for my wife because its smell is so special and keeps very long time. I do not have much knowledge about perfume but my feeling told me my decision was right and my wife would like it though the price is a little higher than the others..

Chanel 5 has got to be the best perfume made. It is an older one, dating from about 1923, but truly a classic and timeless; it will be around for another few hundred years too. The scent was the first aldehyde to be made, and it basically uses roses, freesia, vanilla, neroli, musk and a few other ingredients to produce what I describe as being the sexiest scent ever made. At least, it agrees with my chemistry! If you like a basic floral scent, this is the one. It is pricey, but buying the eau de parfum, instead of the pure parfum will bring the price down and it lasts almost as long. The other options are eau de cologne (another good choice, especially for those who don't want a strong scent) or eau de toilette, which tends not to last on me at all. Refills are available in both the parfum and the eau de parfum, much less than what you originally would pay. This scent never fails to please, both as a gift, receiving it, or giving it; most people are more than happy to get it. I have been wearing it close to twenty years now and never go out of the house without a bit of perfume on! Chanel puts together some nice gift sets, too, in all their fragrances, which sometimes helps to introuce new items without paying full price for each. This is usually around holiday times. If you want a serious woman's perfume, Chanel 5 is the one to choose

this is my all-time favorite. it's just right. you just can't go wrong with it! it's not overpowering. it is very feminine. the men seem to love it and are free with the compliments after they ask, what are you wearing?
