Bought this for my Europe trip. It fits the side pocket of my KATA H-14. The weight and size are just right for trips that I can't take my full-size tripod.
It feels stable with my Rebel XT and 70-200 IS. The legs won't bend for that setup.
It's a nice product. The only drawback is the Zoom version has no quick release like the smaller versions.

Very Cool

This is a really nifty tripod it can hold my Samsung GX10 with a telephoto lens no sweat if I position everything right. I wish the screw removal thing had a wingnut so that it didn't need a coin to undo. Also a ball pivot head on it would be nice but good luck that ever happening. Otherwise with it's nice pole-wrapping abilities and regular short-tripod functioning, this things is nifty and fun and functional.

Incredibly Cool Tripod

This is exactly what I was looking for: a light, compact tripod that's strong enough to hold onto my Canon 5D and EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM lens. While this will never replace my full-size Bogen-Manfrotto behemoth, this will work great for lighter, extended traveling. I find I often miss shots or am forced to shoot at ridiculously high ISOs simply because I really hate carrying around a heavy, full-size tripod, so this should solve the problem. Plus, I love how this tripod can go where others can't. You really can do things like wrap it around poles! My only real complaint about this tripod is the 1/4" adapter screw is very easily lost. It's just a tiny hollow screw that goes on top of the 3/8" screw, and there's nowhere to store it on the tripod. I'm certain I'll lose it or get it stuck in a tripod head one day. Additionally, I wish this tripod had a built-in level, but that's more of a feature request than a complaint.

Nice tripod for on the go

purchased this for an SLR with zoom lens. works great for amature and its small to carry in any backpack. did not have any problem with securing the camera. overall a great product.

Great gadget

Puntos Fuertes: It does the job in area where tripod is not allowed. It does hold an XTI + 24 -105 EF lens.

Puntos Débiles: Doesn't hold strong enough when taking night picture. Winds and slight slippage will cause your picture unusable when taking picture with slower shutter speed.

I bought this for my SE Asia/Japan trip. Everywhere I went, there were people("tourist) to help me take picture... When I was in Japan and I felt a bit safe to take this baby for some night picture, it fails me. It didnt do the job because of winds and slippage plus slow shutter speed.

I have a Nikon D80 DSLR with a 18-200mm zoom lens. So I wanted a "flexpod" that can handle up to 7 lbs. This gorillapod works great and can hold my DSLR with zoom lens easily. I also use it for my compact Casio digicam and also my compact Canon camcorder. I have used this as a regular tripod on the ground or table, wrapped it around a sign post, and a tree branch. You can't do these with a regular tripod. The gorillapod held my camera with no problem.

The only thing that I wish it came with is a release plate so I can easily remove the camera on or off instead of twisting off the flexpod. Overall this is great accessory to have. It is a bit bulkier than other mini tripods but it's light enough to bring with you (almost) everywhere.

Strong enough for a 40D

I bought this product for a recent cruise that I took in the Carribean. I wanted to be able to have the flexibility to mount my DSLR on various surfaces to get pictures with myself and my wife in them. This product did not disappoint. I was able to wrap the legs around posts, set it on rocks to level the camera and place it almost anywhere. I am also very careful with my electronics and was worried that the Gorilla Pod SLR would not be sturdy enough to balance a heavy (Canon 40D with a zoom lens. I am glad to report that it is. From the moment I removed it from the packaging it was apparent that this product is built strong. I looked at some of the generic models and they are not nearly as sturdy as the gorilla pod.

The only thing that gives me pause is that it was not easy for me to hide the gorilla pod in my bag. Because it is so sturdy it is hard to wrap it around in such a way that it fits in my gear bag. To solve this problem I had to clip it to the outside of the bag. If this is my only problem I would say that this is a good thing.


I would definitely recommend this product.

Great little tripod

Puntos Débiles: A little bit too short. Missing a bubble level and a ball head. A little expensive.

Amazing! Especially once you feel you can trust it with your expensive digital SLR (Canon digital SLR with 50-250mm zoom). Easily "grips" to poles and fences, very convenient to put on rocks, branches, ....
It's the perfect companion to a hiker who wants to take pictures, or a tourist in a city because of its light weight. It's also very stable, once you attach it to something.
My only complaints about it are that the legs are a tad too short to grip around most phone poles, or tree trunks (but that would have made it a bit heavier and unwieldy). It also lacks a bubble level, so your pictures are never exactly straight (:-(, and as you often need a way to orient the camera once the tripod is in place, you need to buy a small, light ball head, which adds to the already-hefty price.
Despite my small complaints, I'm thrilled with it.

Quite a useful contraption

The little contraption is quite a useful one. I bought this for my older sister to use with her camera. It comes in handy when you want to snap a shot of yourself that doesn't show your arm in. You don't have to worry about finding a level area that will still allow for your head to show as well! I would recommend it to anyone with a big camera who is looking for new, creative ways to snap shots and take pictures.

Crazy but useful tripod

Two years ago, I bought the original gorillapod from Joby and it was great. However, the original one was too thin and could not take weights more than a pound. I had no choice but ended up selling it on ebay. A few years after, Joby now comes up with a new one (this one) that offers better build and better weight capabilities. This SLR-Zoom version takes more than 6 pounds of weight and the grip is two times bigger than before. It works well with my cameras (Canon EOS 5D and EOS 300) with heavy lenses and flashes. Another use of this tripod will be my off camera external remote flashes. I can put my 580/430EX on this tripod and fire off remote flashes easily.

Overally, I am really glad that Joby came up a new pod like this and it's very useful.
