I had this router for about 5 months and I think it was possitive exerience till I uprgaded to firmware 1.11 or maybe it started behaving oddly around then.

Here's one problem that was solved. Router was making slow connection to some sites, like 1min to display a site. That was solved by changing wan speed from auto to 100m.

Current problem under heavy network usage router disconnects allconnection ,wireless, network, internet and 5-10 seconds later it reconnects. To bad if you are playing a games you get kickout out of server. I don't think router showed more than 5 days uptime with my usage.

I have 3 PC's on the Ports and 2 portable wireless connected. Bought for $118(total cost) on Amazon. Replaced my previous DI624 which I had for 3 years and was flawless. I just went VoIP so I was looking for a router that allowed QOS setup. I have SunRocket and two phone lines and therefore two gizmos. I stumbled in the beginning setting up the wireless and the QOS. It kept resetting the connection every 2-3 min. It appeared to go away when I 'properly' setup the QOS (I should read directions first)

Only grip (Minor) is there is an undocumented button on the side. Had a label over it called "Reserved" There is no mention in the manual nor the DLink web site. I googled and cannot find information on what it does. When I first played with it, It appeard to be very slow when I used UltraVNC for remote access... Not sure, but when I pushed that button, is seemed to fix the problem. Since then, I am very happy with the product. - Lights are very (too) bright in my bedroom, and the Icons are too small, I would prefer large text instead of the tiny Icon but hey, it does look cool... All in all you will be satisfied. Oh Yeah, cannot tell if the QOS helped my VoIP connection because I only setup QOS to add insurance to my VoIP because I have a small business, but it does appear to work properly.

I contacted Dlink support on the "RESERVED" button
Here is their response....
"The button is reserved for use in later firmware than the shipping firmware (1.00). In firmware 1.03 the WiFi Protected Setup was added that uses that button. The button is used to automatically configure your network for
wireless access and security"
... this makes sense because I was using 1.03 when I saw the improvements... so all is well... I suggest DLink make notes in the 1.03 download about this button and save everyone allot of time....

Small Business

I had recently been assigned the task of searching for a potentially scalable (upgradable to full N) small business router for my companies satellite offices. Having already purchased the Belkin N1, NETGEAR WNR854T, and the Linksys WRT350N I recently stumbled upon DLink's announcement of the DIR-655. Before I get to the qualities of the DLink I will share my findings of its predecessors. The Belkin N1 still amazes me with its range despite only having mixed mode. The dashboard is nice and simple and presents you with a rudimentary breakdown of your LAN without having to log in. It's LED display is the Bee's knees - way to go! This is a nice choice for your fundamental home user. The Linksys WRT350N looks cool but once you get into it everything seems to be the same ol, same ol. The neat-o USB feature is slow and unstable at best - perhaps a future firmware update will resolve this but I pretty much gave up on that the first night. As the following is just a rant I will (attempt) to keep it brief. When we were looking at G routers we reviewed and selected the WRT54G, however, our satisfaction was short-lived. After having tested the WRT54G we purchased literally MULTIPLE HUNDREDS of them - ours came with fancy Cisco labels to boot. One thing we failed to do was determine the difference between the v4(s) we tested and the v5(s) we purchased and deployed - oops. The NETGEAR WNR854T is as well equipped with 10/100/1000 which is great, however seems to be focused strictly on the home user - so what I said about the Belkin being great for the home user should be repeated here with the exception of price - this is a bit more cheese for the gigabit feature - so if you're looking at strictly wireless then buy the Belkin. Finally on to the DLink DIR-655!! So it's not as pretty as the rest, nor is it equipped with the large print Reader's Digest LED(s), BUT, it is by far the most comprehensive home/small business router (b, g, or n) that I have had the privilege of testing. The dashboard can be logged onto as an Admin OR as a User (read-only) - nice. It will email you your log files based on a schedule or when the log is full. Hell, it will email you to let you know a newer firmware version is available - nicce! One can actively monitor http sessions, delegate wireless bandwidth, assign IP Addresses based on MAC, and then some. My environment is dominantly 54G so I would not anticipate much / any of a performance increase with the exception of range.... but I got it. With 6 concurrent wireless connections and 2 wired (each having a VPN established to an external server) each PC was able to zip, copy, and verify 60+ MB of data simultaneously over the LAN/WLAN without dropping even one VPN connection - nicccce. This process took 3.4 minutes (average) whereas with the WRT54G it averaged 9.2 minutes and dropped all but the 2 wired VPN sessions. I only pray this performance remains consistant and DLink doesn't make a major OS (or otherwise) change without first notifying the consumer.

A great product. Other products that are similar are almost $200. I got this for only $109. Great deal. Works well. I had a Wireless G router and the wireless signal on this router works even better than my old one (signal strength and distance). I love the Gigabit ports too! A must have!

I bought this router to replace a Belkin wireless "pre N" router that was dropping IP addresses. I had purchased an updated Belkin router and returned it when the signal strength at my downstairs system was lower than with the old router. The D-Link router was easily installed with the set up software and easily configurable using the manual interface as well. I was pleased to find the range was so good that I no longer needed my d link range extender which I had used with the older Belkin router. Hopefully it will serve my needs for the foreseeable future. The cost has come down somewhat to around $130, and it seems better than the competition at present.

Awesome Wireless Router

This is an amazing wireless router, I just replaced my aging Dlink wired router (worked great for 4 years) and my Linksys 54g access point ( what a nightmare!!!) with this unit. I have a desktop, a network printer, Dlink - Vonage adapter with 2 phonelines, Dlink HD media Center and 3 laptops connected to my network at all times and this router handles them like a dream. My VOIP is clear and fast, my Media streams at lighning speed to my home theater, my laptops VPN to work without a hickup and my dowloads continue to be as fast as always. amazing!

Da Bomb!

Our SOHO purchased this to replace a NETGEAR router that we'd almost always had problems with. We were having to reset it on an almost daily basis -- sometimes multiple times per day. I finally gave up on Customer Support after many calls and no help. Anyway, back to the DIR-655. It worked right out of the box. I DID have to follow the instructions -- yes, actually read and follow the instructions to the letter. But they're simple and they work. Don't believe the reviews about having to buy the Network Magic software if you use it -- I've been using it for over 6 months and have never gone PRO. This router gives us markedly better downloading and uploading speeds with WPA2 enabled, with over double the range that we had before. Not only does it reach every part of our 3700 square foot home, but also reaches far out into our backyard as well. Where the signal strength is lower, it lowers transmission speed but doesn't drop signal. Torrent downloads at better than 500 kbps! AND: I have NEVER had to reset it once. Not a single time! What more do you want? BTW, we aren't using the GBit ports, but have three PCs connected wirelessly via the DIR-655. Way to go, D-Link.

Hardware Version A3 with Firmware v1,11 & Encore...

Puntos Débiles: Overheats if you place it down on your desk horizontal causing the router to drop your internet connection (set it up Vertical using the stand they provide to stop this from happening).

It works wonderful with Encore ENLWI-N PCI Adapters which cost 30 bucks compaired to D-Links PCI adapters that cost 80 bucks just make sure to download the newest software from Encores website. When I first set up the adapters I was only getting a Signal of 57-63 with the router horizontal on the desk but when I put the router standing up vertically and pointed the tips of the antennas towards the rooms where I had the wireless adapters the signal went from 57-63 to 90-100 and I saved 50 bucks over the people who paid for the D-Link adapters lol.

Remember to Disable QoS as well, it cut my bandwith in half and causes extra stress on the Router so its not really worth it.

It is easy to configure and the web user interface is very similar to other earlier generation Ubicom based products such as the DLink DGL-4300, Zyxell X-550 and Trendnet TEW611BRP. I am using it to route a Verizon 3m/768k dry loop DSL circuit to a 3 PC, 1 VOIP wired network and 2 802.11g wireless devices. If you are considering a DGL-4300, this device is priced similarly and is next generation.

I have 3 desktops and 2 laptops hooked into the router. 2 of the desktops have Vista and work fine. The 3rd desktop and the 2 laptops (wireless on laptops) have XP. The XP desktop does NOT WORK. The wireless laptops both work. VPN tunneling to work at home works fine. The one XP desktop has been offline for 2 months and I still cannot get it to connect to the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm giving it 5 stars for the blue LED's and the fast wireless anyway.
ATTENTION!!!
Update!!! I got it to work!!! The XP computer had been hardware upgraded and old driver remnants kept it from working. I uninstalled the Ethernet card in hardware manager and then re-started the computer. Problem solved. I LOVE THIS ROUTER!!!!

DIR-655 Fails right along with Customer Service

DIR-655 was bad right out of the box. The bad unit defaults to factory settings on a regular basis. Wireless range less than optimal even on high power. Tech support was okay, but seemed liked they didn't care and didn't want to be bothered. Return service is even worse. Charged 197.00 hold fee on credit card, they promissed to send a brand new unit, but they sent an old refurbished one, have to send both back, one at a time so I can stay somewhat connected. Was on hold to speak to someone for over an hour. Had to call back and zero out to an operator to speak to someone in charge. So far there has been a total of about 11 calls to the company just to get poor service again and again.

What more can you ask for in a Wireless router?

Puntos Débiles: The USB port on the back does not work for NAS. It wasn't designed to either.

I have had this for about 4 months now. I have not had to reset the router once. It's had 4 minutes of downtime in that 4 months. I have 3 Desktops, 1 server, 3 laptops and two wireless printers connected to this router 24/7.

I've been a Network Engineer since 1990 and never seen a more solid product in the wireless router category.

Price was a nice $119 at Costco.

It also has great reviews at Tom's Hardware.

Puntos Débiles: Setup disk did not work in my system. Is not compatible with b devices in mixed n, b, g mode. Customer support has very limited knowledge and goes through a typical script for resolution.

Bought this router for a great price and installed it with a little bit of difficulty. The setup disk did not recognize the router as a D-Link router so had to call customer support to get going. Router was installed upstairs and a desktop with a g card is downstairs. Signal strength was good and but was only getting 1 Mbps until I installed an updated driver for the g card. Was then able to operate at speeds ranging from 48-54 Mbps (previous Netgear router that had failed maxed at 36 Mbps). Noticed that my Palm Tx (with b capability) had intermittent connection and sometimes did not even see the router. After spending over an hour with customer support, they told me that there is a known issue with this router's compatibility with b devices in mixed n, b, g mode. Works fine in mixed b, g mode though. They are working on a solution but have no timetable for a resolution and do not know if the solution will be a hardware or firmware fix or even if one will be found. I am not even sure if this is a generic problem with all n routers.

Had bought an n adapter to test out capability but need the router to work with my Palm as well so I returned both the router and adapter (unopened). This router may work very well for those who do not need b compatibility. I liked it enough that I would consider buying it in the future if the issue is resolved.

Great Router

I bought this router to replace my aging Linksys router which was starting to have problems. I am very pleased with it. Because it has gigabit ethernet connections for the wired devices, it made a huge improvement for moving large files across my local network. Between 2 computers that have gigabit cards the performance was over twice as fast as with the 100 MB router. I moved a 3 GB file in 2 minutes with this router, the old one took almost 6 minutes to move the same file. Both computers reported a gigabit connection, I didn't even try to tweak anything.

Also, the wireless connection was better than my previous router just using a 802.11g (not N) connection. No drop-outs and I get a good or excellent connection anywhere in the house. I haven't tried the 'N' connection yet since I don't have anything that uses that yet. But, it's nice to know it's there when I upgrade the laptop someday.

I don't think there is anything else I could want in a router. I'm very happy with it.

DIR-655 HW v. A1/A2, Firmware v. 1.04. DWA-652,...

I am a computer desktop support professional. I planned upgrade from ancient 801.11B Linksys router because I wanted Gb wired, fastest wireless standard, and latest encryption (WPA2). I read many posts before deciding on D-Link DIR-655. Reviewers were complimentary, so I made the plunge.

Firstly, Draft N wireless is cutting edge: heed all the warnings before you upgrade. WPA2 encryption is relatively new , too, and if the intent is to use it with Windows XP, go to Microsoft and get the latest upgrade for wireless config for WPA2 -- not well published. Ensure you are using Draft N adaptors with the latest drivers.

I had problems getting the router to work draft N with its published compatible DWA-652 adaptor, and with older DWA-130 -- would never authenticate faster than G. D-Link doesn't document this, but you must use WPA encryption to get draft N speeds. I found this in posts after struggling with it. At the time, no documentation existed. That may be part of Draft N standards which I didn't read.

At the time of the upgrade, I could not find Draft N wireless print servers, so I settled on Netgear WGPS606 which is not compatible with WPA2. It does work with WPA encryption, so the router is set in dual WPA/WPA2 encryption mode. Works well. Forced WPA2 encrypted connections work fine.

Problems exist through upgrade to 1.03 firmware and 1.04 firmware with intermittent resetting of the router. Posts for 1.04 upgrade notes bugs that it has with resetting, saved config settings from older versions incompatible with 1.04, and SPI firewall disablement. Expectation is 1.05 upgrade will solve this, as DLink frequent firmware upgrades are intended to maintain Draft N status, I suppose. The problem is, they don't publish any details. The best/only help available for this router’s settings are the Help link within the interface, and other users' posts. DLink is apparently silent.

As for the 24/7 helpdesk. In a word: Fageddaboudit! Asian helpdesk hosed me in 15 minutes when I called them, and I had to tell him what to do to fix it. He referred me to 2nd level support with an incident number for Day hours M-F ONLY. The return call was helpful, but I solved my own problem (WPA2 encryption to get Draft N speed) before the guy called me a few days later. I was given his direct 2nd level support phone number, but he didn't return my calls after his initial call to me. Bottom line: YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN with support. If you don't like doing these upgrades get a subscription rate from GeekSquad or build a good relationship with that geek brother-in-law.

I'll probably try another company's hardware when I do another upgrade (3 years or so from now). I like having some documentation to go with equipment.

Satisfactory rating is due to fact that Draft N is just that: Draft. I'm on the edge of rating this lower, but I'll give DLink the benefit of that doubt.

Pretty good so far

First the setup program on the supplied CD would not detect the router. So I did a manual setup. Just connected the modem to router and router to computer then powered them up in sequence. Then the setup found the router no problem. I did a basic setup manually after that by typing the router IP address into my browser and setting up the WPA2 encryption.

The notebook client card was a bit more difficult primarily because the Windows wireless net manager tried to butt in. Once I eliminated that the rest was a breeze.

Everything seemed fine until I did some file transfer tests this AM. The D-Link connection utility would report a speed of 120-240 Kbps but as soon as the file transfer started the connection speed plummeted to 12 Kbps. I repeated this test over and over. It was taking like 40 minutes to send a 1G file to my NAS!! That was no better than what my 6 year old Siemens B router did. D-Link India tech support didn't help.

Anyway, I went in and manually selected a channel as far from other local nets (all G) as I could and performance is MUCH better. During transfer I am maintaining a solid 80-160 Mbps. These are "reported" rates not exact transfer rates but not bad at all.

But I still don't understand why the reported connection speed drops from 240 to about half once the file transfer begins and returns to 240 immediately after. It's almost like the router interferes with itself! Maybe one of you guys can explain??

Bottom line is that it is a quantum leap from my 6 year old B gear and will let me relocate my desktop upstairs once I get the PCI adapter installed and get VOIP. Hopefully those installs won't be too difficult and transfer rates will remain good. So just 3 stars for now.

Oh, one other small issue.... After the initial setup I can no longer access the router interface from my desktop that is plugged into a wired port on the router. I tried the manual's (online only!) troubleshooting to no avail. Luckily I am still able to access the interface from my laptop wirelessly.

All About the Dlink DIR-655

Puntos Débiles: Setup Disk didn't work; issues with mixed-mode processing (n,g,b); a lot of details to manage that if you don't read the manual, you can get frustrated easily.

This is a very good router for the price (I paid about $118). It replaced an older D-Link GameLounge router that blew out a wan port on a power surge. I like the white case with the blue LEDs - my switch and my other router and cable modem have green lights, and in the dark, it's easy to see what's blinking.

It keeps up the throughput nicely - I have a high-end cable connection (30MB down, 10MB up) and at my home/office I not only have multiple PCs on the LAN, I also have the kid's XBOX live and WOW running. Oh, and 3 VOIP phones as well. Doesn't skip a beat.

Had a problem with the wireless setup - the mixed "b,g,n" mode flakes out - had to switch to "mixed b,g" to work with my laptops (don't have "n" cards for them yet.) Seems like this is an issue with the router that may eventually get fixed in a firmware update, but we'll see.

The CD didn't seem to want to work for me (Windows XP SP2), but I've set up dozens of routers before manually, so I jumped right in and got it going in about 15 minutes. However, there are a LOT of wonderful options for QOS, firewall, VPN and such - great flexibility, but you really have to read the help files to get the most out of it.

Customer support was kind of weak - nice enough, but obviously reading from a script. If you're a techie, this isn't a big problem. But if you're a novice or end-user (notice I refrained from calling them "noobs") it can get frustrating.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the router; there are some minor improvements that could be made, but the plusses definitely outweigh the minusses. If D-Link could get their tech support a little more friendlier, they might see a big jump in sales.

DLINK "N" ROUTER

This is my third D-link wireless router within the last 5 years. It replaces my supper-G (108G MIMO) which replaced my enhanced-b(22mbs). Although my previous two routers are still fully functional I decided to get the "N" to be able to download larger files faster. The wireless range appears to be greater than the my 108G MIMO, and when connected via Ethernet files download about time and half faster as well.
If you are considering upgrading to cat-6 or cat-6e Ethernet cables, this router should handle the extra bandwidth just fine. Overall a nice future-proof investment.

You will likely be disappointed

Puntos Fuertes: For many years DLink has sold dozens of models of excellent 802.11a/b/g routers and access points, amassing a stellar reputation with consumers world wide.

Puntos Débiles: 40MHz-wide 11n channels in the 2.4GHz band will take up channels 1 through 10, limiting those previously sold b/g devices to channel 11 (in the americas and japan). In urban areas that = interference.

Hopefully in the finished specification the IEEE will come to their senses and allow 40MHz-wide 802.11n channels only in the 5GHz UNII band, where there are a currently a dozen non-overlapping channels instead of only 3 as in the 2.4GHz ISM band. IMO, Linksys and DLink are urinating in the public pool by marketing any 2.4GHz-only 11n devices. (of course it's cheaper not to include a 5GHz radio too!) If the IEEE decides not to allow 40MHz-wide 2.4GHz channels in the final spec, the DI-655 will not be capable of reaching even half the currently advertised 11n speed.

Tried installing on my own. Would not work - Connection to internet was never made.
Called customer support. The guy was extremely knowledgebale.
Made the modem in bridge mode.
Then on flawlessly connected to the internet. Great product.

Money down the hold

I have read the reviews on this router, and I thought that some of them may be because of their tech inexperience, but after my personal experience, I found differently. I bought this router and the D Link Exteme Destop Adapter DWA552 and attempted to install myself. After it wouldn’t install properly, I called up the D Link customer support number, and they walked me through many steps attempting to resolve the problem. Finally, they said that I must have a defective adapter and to return it to the Circuit City store where I bought it (Little Rock, AR). The store was out of the above adapters, so I bought a D Link DWA 142 adapter. I was also unsuccessful in getting any wireless reception for my remote computer. I went back to Circuit City to ask someone I bought this router, along with the D Link Xtreme Desktop Adapter DWA552. I could not get my remote computer to what I was doing wrong. I allowed a salesman to talk me into paying for Firedog (their tech installation people) to come out and do it themselves. My thinking was yes, I'll have to pay more ($99.99 for the router and $79.99 for the remote), but at least I'll get my wireless service set up correctly. After several missed calls (they were scheduled, but didn't show up), I went back to the store in person to protest. The store where I bought it was not the store who supervised Firedog, so I was routed to another store (in NLR, AR). The store manager assigned a new tech person to come out and do the wireless installation. When she got out, she brought different routers and adapters, this time wireless G, which she said was more stable. She got the wireless set up going, but after a few days, it didn't work. I called her back and she came back out and again got it going for a few days, but afterwards it quit again. I called her back and she said that she was fired from Firedog, so I started all over again, going back in person to the second Circuit City store to complain to the store manager. He then sent out a different tech person with the original Dlink N router and adapters. The new tech could not get the wireless system working. He said I had a virus that needed to be taken care of before the wireless could work. He then took both computers back to wipe down the hard drive and clear the viruses (and charged an additional $99.99). In a few days he brought the computers back and got the wireless system going again. In another few days it was not working. I went back to the second store and talked to the store manager about this. He was going out of town on vacation so he assigned my case to an assistant, who simply said to call Firedog and schedule a revisit. After waiting for a week for the tech to come back on the appointed day, he called me about 15 minutes before he was scheduled to be at my house. He said his Firedog supervisor wouldn't allow him to come back out unless I paid for another visit. I refused and went back a week later when the store manager was to return from his vacation. After talking to him in person, he said that he would call the Firedog supervisor and get it straightened out. He took my phone number and said that he would call me that night. A week later after not hearing from him, I went back to the store (this is getting old by now), to ask him what the status of my wireless installation was. He said that the store could no longer send out a tech person because they had sent tech people out 4 times and that they had fixed the situation, and that it was not their fault that it quit working each time. I pointed out that I had spent approximately $230 for the equipment from Firedog, $170 for the installation, another $100 for the removal of viruses for a total of approximately $500, and I had nothing any better than before I visited the store to buy the equipment in the first place. In other words, I would have been better off to keep my $500 in my pocket and not go through all the hassle from Circuit City. The store manager said that he couldn't do anything more to help me unless I paid for another trip. I am certainly not going to pay anything to Circuit City, either for services they are supposed to render, or will I ever buy anything from Circuit City again. This experience has jaded my opinion of Circuit City. Buyer Beware.

D-Link DIR-655 Router

Puntos Fuertes: Very easy to install. Backwardly compatible. Extends range, and, when used with the proper adapters, increases speed.

Puntos Débiles: Haven't seen any yet.

I chose this router because I wanted to upgrade my network. I have always been a fan of D-Link because of their products and service. This router continues in that fine tradition. I would recommend it to any serious home or small business networker.

I have a Mac OS 10. and a PC laptop and a skype phone trying to network them all together. The Install Wizard CD didn't work on my Mac and then I worked with support who tried to make me update the firmware and do a couple resets, which never worked. They were convinced that it was a dud and to get a duplicate of the device. The duplicate had the exact same problems...so then we tried with support to load the software onto the pc laptop and it was the same story. I never got a great explanation why it didn't work for me, but it was a real waste of my time. I say good luck to you.

Very Poor Quality Assurance

I've purchased it online from Comp-U-Plus but since I was flying abroad in a couple of days and was kind of busy I decided to take it with me and open it there.

Well, I opened it, configured the internet connection with no problem and then went on to wireless config.
Except there was no wireless. I've tried everything - all possible configuration settings, all firmware versions, resets, setup disk that came with it, 3 different wireless network cards on 4 different computers - nothing.

I've called the D-Link support in the states, and man it is bad. When the guy (his name was Shawn - it was so psychedelic that I can still remember it as if it were yesterday) realized that I was calling from abroad he went away for a while and then came back and told me that they do not support customers from abroad and pointed me towards a local D-Link representative. I explained to him that I bought the router in states, but he would keep on saying that "they do not support customers from outside of US". I then asked him to send me an email saying exactly that, so local D-Link support won't give me any problems, but he went into a loop and just kept going like a broken record: "we do not support customers from outside of US". At some point I realized that I'm speaking to him like to a 3 year old and he still fails to understand me, so I decided to give up and try my lack with a local D-Link support.
To my surprise they were much more responsive - support engineer called me back in a couple of hours and after a brief discussion and one more attempted firmware update he said that the router is dead and sent me an RMA.

So I shipped it back to Comp-U-Plus for a refund and went back to my trusty WRT54G with DD-WRT.

Bottom line is - D-Link quality control was, to put it gently, careless enough to let a box with a DEAD RADIO ship and I had to pay for it's round trip across US and abroad.

I can't say if it's a good product when it's working, but if you are willing to take a risk - at least buy it from your local brick and mortar store, so you can exchange/return it with no hassle.

Nice Hardware Questionable Firmware after Upgrade

Puntos Fuertes: Nice coverage/range at my house. It easily covers my house and property 1/2 acre. Easy wall mounting. 1000Mbs wired switch.

Puntos Débiles: Rather cheesy looking plastic housing. Very numerous and bright blue LED's which would be annoying if the router was placed where it could be seen. Latest firmware 1.32 should be avoided.

The router was given to my by a friend in a trade for a WRT54G set up as a repeater so the price was right. I have the router set up in my machine closet which is under lthe basement steps. It's wall mounted which is a snap with this box and something I really like and I think this can be used to help the range to some degree.

I made the mistake of updating to the latest firmware on the router after it was given to me. I think I started out with version 1.08 on my hardware version A2. I upgraded it to the 1.32NA version and this was not reliable using the stock settings. Disabling DNS relay solved the problems I was having with having the router hang after a few days of even light use.

This was my first D-Link router experience and I feel that the hardware is very nice and if they can get their firmware to be as good as the hardware this router will be excellent

DIR-655 The Best of the Best

Puntos Fuertes: Excellent 802.11N wireless coverage compared to that of G and Super G. Even G is better. Stylish Apple-like design. Nice menu based setup. D-Link has listened top the customers.

I originally purchased this from NewEgg back when it was a loss-leader and got somehat of a better deal than it is priced now. Price has gone up due to this models populatity, stability and customer statisfaction. It is still a good deal. I have bought nothing but D-Link products for the past 6 years or so. D-Link engineers always provide firmware upgrades if a product has a problem. If you upgrade the firmware, update your NIC drivers and Windows and use good cables you should not go wrong. Pair this puppy up with a D-Link DSL or Cable modem for extraordinary throughput. Highly recommended.

Puntos Débiles: WPA2 does not work very good with MAC OS 10

People have problems with the router on Mac OSX have to configure manually because the disk is not made for OSX (not that hard to do). Then make sure to select WPA and WPA2 as the wireless card in the laptop does not seem to connect using just WPA2 only. Other than that got it working in no time flat. Configured on the same subnet. Like is good so far. I had the Buffalo routers before this as someone recommended it. I would not purchase those ever again as they sucked and buffalo admitted to having faulty firmware. They do have one good product in the Ethernet Convertor. A must have for someone with an Xbox, Media Center PC, Playstation etc.
