Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

A fascinating-looking film wasted by incomprehensible acting and script. . .for the last time- Angelina Jolie is a porn-model masquerading as an 'actress'. . .and Jude Law is wasted. . .

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

not very good. give the director credit for trying something different.  it is awful cheesy. yes they were trying to capture that 30s look, and the way they talked. but annoying fast. the actors did the best they could but felt myself squirming for it to get over with.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

Pretty to look at and with a couple of actors that can usually carry a film.  But they couldn't carry this one.  I have no idea why Sky Captain was so boring, but I actually fell asleep about half way in.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

Bored me soooooooo much. One of those films that you wind up almost falling asleep on a bunch of times, and it's also one of those ones that, for no good reason, you stupidly feel that you are somehow obligated to watch the whole thing. Then you wind up kicking your own ass for wasting two precious hours on this dreck.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

Hollywood will never learn that it makes no difference how much effort goes into a movies look if the story is crap. In this case it was so boring and uninteresting even a die hard sci-fi fan like me was just rolling the eyes and wondering who the hell thought this story, as written, would be interesting? I enjoyed the 50's sci-fi serials and such. It certainly gets high marks for trying to capture that essence. But the characters were so ridiculously contrived and one dimensional. A complete waste of time and effort. It is no wonder this one went into the crapper at the box office. It is rare a sci-fi movie is DOA at the box office. Even the Hulk had a big opening. A rare piece of trash that even sci-fi fans avoided. And that is a good thing. Too bad they'll eventually keep making trash like this.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

Overrated stinkorama. Some of the bad SCI-FI movies Mystery Science Theater 3000 makes fun of was better than this snorefest. Supposedly, the entire scenery and background was computer animated. If that's the case, then I was praying for the Blue Screen of Death to pop up and get me out of this. So utterly boring, the drab background was dull and unimaginative. Even the Fx stunk. The planes looked plain dumb. The story was like some 9th rate film noir by some rookie hack. Absolutely zero chemistry between Jude Law and Apple's mom. I used to like Jude Law (especially in Talented Mister Ripley), but his string of stinkers (Alfie, Closer, and this detritus) makes him the latest actor to go shark jumping. We may only remember him as the dude who stood next to Ashlee Simpson when she complained about acid reflux on SNL.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

Utter garbage. If Jude Law's career can survive that it can survive anything.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

This movie was basically a carbon copy of something from the early 50's. Gwenyth Paltrow's character was as annoying as she was deceiptful and Sky Captain was pretty much Batman in a plane.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

This is easily the best movie that I've seen in years. Brilliantly creative and awesomely stylized, this amazing creation should easily sweep the Oscars this year (although Spider-Man 2 might put up a good fight). The acting is great, with Jude Law playing the hero and the beautiful Gwenyth Paltrow playing the Lois Lane-type. The action and combat scenes are astounding, and easily rival those of the original Star Wars movie and the best episodes of Voyager and Enterprise. The dialgoue is great, with lots of humor sprinkled throughout--including an uproarious running gag involving a camera. The imagination in this movie is seemingly boundless, as robots, planes, sea vehicles, air bases, and more lurk around every corner. A classic story of good vs. evil, Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow could easily be the best movie of 2004.

Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow

Well, it was pretty to look at, but that's about it. Stunning visuals couldn't save this movie from its agonizing storyline and cheesy dialogue. I'll give it that, the style kind of lended itself to it being cheesy; it looked like what those old movies would have been like had the technology been around at the time. Jude Law plays the hero, the stereotypical handsome and witty pilot; Gwyneth Paltrow is Polly Perkins, the stereotypical ditzy blonde female reporter whose ambitions lead her into trouble. Bit of the story: Big machines appear out of nowhere, taking resources . . . but for what? Pretty much the whole movie was a blue-screen deal, a world created by computer graphics. The interactions between Law and Paltrow's characters were the second most interesting parts of the movie, second to the imagery--but that's not saying much for the movie. Another complaint--when I went to the website for the movie (www.skycaptain.com...), it says the city where the story takes place first is . . . "Gotham City". Umm . . . "Gotham City"? I'm no comic book expert, but I think another hero's already got dibs on that territory. It was a neat expermiment, but it didn't quite follow through. Not worth the admission price.
