It has some good looking women, but is a fairly tired reworking of Dracula, Frankenstein, Transylvania and other familiar haunts. Dracula hunting for the folk who like video games.

Effects were pretty poor, and the acting was terrible. Not hammy, just terrible. For a good laugh, get this, a case of cheap Belgian lagers, and follow it up with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I watched it because Hugh was in it, but was a bit disappointed by how it turned out. It wasn't terrible, but it really wasn't anything worth bragging about either.

Puntos Fuertes: clever idea, interesting sets, and a original twist on the frankenstien story, hot vampire chicks

Puntos Débiles: weak computer graphics in some places

If you accept the fact it isn't a realistic movie, then you will enjoy this fast paced monster marathon. I really enjoyed this movie, but I am also biased by being a huge fan of monster movies.

A the Dracula story once again has been taken to the big screen with some new twists. The Mr Hyde fight should have been left on the cutting room floor as it looked silly and did not really add the plot. Nice effects but a plot that we all know and is there for some what predictable. Hugh Jackman does a nice job and he far out shines his supporting cast. Worth a look at the DVD.

This movie,in one word is wow,I thought it would be good,but not this good.The speciel effects were amazing.And it has suspense,and a sense of freight that balences it with suspence and thriller.If you like monster movies,you have to get this video.

The epic documentary masterpiece, "Van Helsing" is not to be outdone by recent movies such as Lord of the Rings, or Mike Moore's "Fahrenheit". In this classic moving piece, Hugh Jackman is chronicled from his pre-Wolverine days as he searches for his career by eliminating other monsters who might threaten Wolverine's manhood. The film captures Jackman at his best; charming vampire girls along the way, and even making friends of Dr Jekyl and Frank N Stein.

The development of Frank N Stein's character is something which will touch us all; One moment he is angrily throwing Van Helsing around like a little rag doll, or being kidnapped in a horse drawn buggy; the next he is jokingaround with Van Helsing and his sidekick jester, Nerdo. Frank N Stein adds a comic relief to a film otherwise in trouble. His line "Save yourself--- and Van Helsing!" as he battles a monstrous vampire demon, is classic and the stuff legends are born from.

It is hard to believe that no CGI was used on this film and that people like this really exist, but that is what documentaries are for; to expose the myths of society and bring to light that which we refuse to believe. In this case it is that we refuse to believe Hugh Jackman ever had to endure this.

Puntos Débiles: Worst acting yet! What was Jackman thinking doing this role? I couldn't believe the weak story line, crummy CG work, and retarded ending!

I would never recommend this movie. If you are going to make a monster movie - a) stick to one monster - don't pretend they all exist within walking distance of each other. b) Frankenstein should never be a humorous character - they need to remake the film, deleting all the scenes with Hugh Jackman and Frankstein. c) Golem is one of the most famous CG creations - and should have been hunted by Van Hellswig too. d) This movie would have been better if Hugh Jackman stuck to playing Wolverine and he recruited the X-men to fly around and help him track down and kill the monsters.

I like mindless FUN action movies but this movie wasn't fun..it was just minldess and boring. The plot is ridiculous, the CGI was overused and the action and sound was so mind numbingly relentless I was hoping for some truly scary parts but none came, the charcters are flat and unintersting and the dialogue is terrible "So you're the great Van Helsing" says Dr.Jekyl and Mr.Hyde "And you're a deranged psycho" says Van Helsing ...good comeback. The ending was so disappointing, after the movie was finished I felt nothing, just like I had wasted my money to see a bunch of minldess overdone action pieces and CGI. I like mindless action but I atleast deserve characters that I have some care about and a plot a little less ridiculous. Rental only...discount rental.

This movie put me in mind of all of the horror flicks that I loved as a kid. It's a B-Movie genre and I loved it. Though it's not for everyone, you really have to appreciate the art form here. I would watch it over and over and over.

Saw this movie three times. It is lots of fun and the Werewolf is great! Highly recommend if you like Vampires and Werewolfs.

I think many people missed the intended feel of the movie. They misunderstood that the film was supposed to be corny and far-fetched as a sort of throwback to classic monster flicks. In this day and age where most movies like this strive for as much realism as possible, I think this attempt threw people and that's why its received such bad reviews here. I'm not saying its fantastic, mind you but it wasn't the worst either. Hugh Jackman is solidifies his hero/action hero status with charm and ease. Kate Beckinsale was ill-fitted for her role and that accent was almost painful. A shining point of the movie was David Wenham as Carl. He was utterly amusing and practically saved many dull parts of the film. The special effects were blase and the storyline was weak. Despite all this, I still found it enjoyable and not nearly as bad as I had expected.

I have yet to see a movie as poorly directed, poorly written, and poorly acted (except by Jackman) as this one. I was SO looking forward to it, being a big Universal Monster fan myself. This movie was supposed to be a dream come true. Instead I got a convoluted plot, with mediocre special effects (a Stephen Sommers tradition), and the least believable romanian accents in the history of cinema (including that guy at the beginning of Eyes Wide Shut). This movie should be shown in every film academy throughout the world as a cautionary example of what happens when a GREAT idea is given to a mediocre director who, by the way, believes he can translate said idea into a plot and screenplay. Awful awful awful awful awful awful awful!!!!!!!!

The most enjoyable part of this movie (besides Hugh Jackman baring his chest -- yum) was David Wenham (previously Faramir in the LOTR series) as the friar. He provided comic relief in a movie that dragged and showed a different facet to his acting ability that I was unfamiliar with. I usually love Kate Beckinsale, but her accent was deplorable -- then again, the men in the theater were staring more at her bustline than actually listening to what she was saying, anyway. Hugh Jackman was good as the title character, but the corny-factor of the ending almost had me crying in agony. A few good action sequences, good humor, otherwise -- forget it.

Very entertaining film! Great special effects and action. Hugh Jackman is becoming a good actor. Some corny, far-fetched parts brought it down a bit though.

To be fair, "House of the Dead" was the worst movie I've ever seen, follwed by "Club Dread" . . . but "Van Helsing", disappointingly, is still pretty low on the list. So many great concepts and mostly good special effects, but it couldn't save it from the painfully bad script and the horrible cliche' s (I mean, come on, the "misunderstood hero with amnesia"? And the final embrace between Van Helsing and Anna looked like it was ripped from a dollar-store romance novel cover? How about the hero riding off into the sunset? Yeah, it's from a comic book, and of course you have to account for some degree of cheesiness because sometimes it just doesn't translate as nicely into movie form, but hell, this was pretty bad). It all went downhill from the beginning. I was cracking up at the end, but I don't think it was intended to be a comedy. With so much to work with, with so many possibilities, they could have come up with something better than that. 2 stars is generous.

This is a fantastic movie!!! Great special effects, lovable and funny characters and a real adventure ride. Hugh Jackman is brilliant as Van Helsing, and Kate Beckinsale is gorgeous and sexy as always. All up it's a movie experience, must see on the big screen. You will enjoy it from the beginning to the end, I promise!
