Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDAnd why wasn't there more collaboration between Eastern & Western filmmakers after this big budget movie? It was a hit, and rightfully so. It had elements of East Asian traditional storyline and action, combined with Western and more modernized technological wizardry to bring forth special effects, cameratography, and the style of film making reminiscent of big blockbuster hits. This is a great example of what cooperation can bring everyone = Success. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDLooking for realism in a martial arts movie is an adventure that is doomed to futility and is something that should be a given up from the start. Master Lee (Bruce) had a difficult time trying to convince the producers of "The Green Hornet" television series (in which he played the part of Kato in the late 60's) that when he kicked or punched an opponent, they normally lost consciousness very quickly on their way to the floor. The producers, knowing that it was their job to give the viewers of a campy, action hero series a reason to watch (That being goofy, long-winded, action packed bouts where good inevitably triumphs, againt overwhelming odds, against evil.) told Lee to keep his mouth shut if he liked cashing his generous paychecks. Lee took this lesson into his own career and gave the genre it's first and greatest international superstar by arranging the bouts in his films along much the same lines. Later we saw Jackie Chan add heavy doses of slapstick and ever more death defying stunts that have continued to amaze and satisfy audiences to this day. The point being; This stuff ain't supposed to stay strickly within the laws of phyics, so can your skeptical, intellectual, innervisions and pass the popcorn. With Ang Lee's visually soaring epic "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", you get action, adventure, scenic panorama, and a touching tale of love and betrayal. It's far more an art film than it is fodder for the lovers of shoot em' ups and car chases. Maybe some of you guys should have taken your girlfriends to see this picture instead of those guys you go out skateboarding with. If you're still not convinced in I can tell you what did it for me; The opportunity to gaze upon the strikingly beautiful countenance of the lovely Ziyi Zhang (who was billed as Zhang Ziyi in those days) for the better part of two hours. If that doesn't get your heart rate up you may be due for a check-up. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDOne of the most overrated films ever. The truth of the matter is that it's plotless, slow moving, pointless and boring with silly and unrealistic kung-fu choreographing. Stick with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDIt was a pretty good film for something out of Asia. It reminded me of those old Kung-Fu films were everyone stayed in the air more time than on the ground. Good thing Newton didn't see this one, he might of questioned whether gravity really existed or not. Also atleast they din't have to lip sinc like those oldies. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDThis is the worst movie I have ever seen!! Although, I have never laughed so hard from a movie ever, I almost cramped up man. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDA stylish movie with more plot and interesting characters than almost anything made in Hollywood. It isn't even fair trying to compare this to Hollywood action movies with paper thin characters and scripts written by marketing analysts. A quality action movie that is very enjoyable. I prefer a little different type of martial arts film so I won't rate it a 5 but this movie is far better than almost anything created in the US. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDReally enjoyable and quite different from the usual Hollywood fare, and with a gorgeous score by Tan Dun (Yo-Yo Ma on the cello). While you can enjoy it for the cinematography alone, the story is engaging and poignant. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. UPDATE: I think it is interesting that people complain about the stunts being "unrealistic"--when they are fans of Hollywood films that feature heroes emerging unscathed, with nary a hair out of place from gigantic explosions, twenty-car crashes, machine-gunnings, plasma-rifle-riddlings, nuclear explosions, asteroid strikes, gamma-ray irradiations, and other culturally "acceptable" stunts. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDMan was I disappointed with this one. The hype surrounding this movie was unreal, and everyone I heard talk about it said it was an incredible movie. Unfortunately I had seen a number of Chinese action flicks before in my life, so really nothing about the movie impressed me. I like Chow-Yun Fat, but he's good in everything he does, and he's also the coolest Chinese man alive. The wire stunts were kind of embarrassing to watch, although they were probably a lot of fun to do. I thought it looked ridiculous that when someone leaped from the ground to a roof, it looked like they were running up invisible stairs instead of just jumping up. The fight scenes were well choreographed and visually very exciting, but absolutely nothing could have lived up to the hype. I'm sure that in China this sort of thing is pretty pedestrian. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI have to admit...when I first saw the ads for this movie I was highly pesimistic. Now after seeing it, how wrong I was to judge!! (obviously if you don't mind reading sub text at the bottom of your television screen than you should be alright watching this movie.) I found myself crying at the end. Beautifully crafted and amazing fighting scenes, I could hardly move I was so enthralled. Seriously. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDAlright, first of all, for those who don't know "who the hell makes a movie in feacking chinees", guess where they made this movie? IN CHINA. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Not all movies are made in America, movies exist in other countries, too. Big surprise. The subtitles try to stay as close to the original, literal translation of the language; it's not going to make perfect sense in Englsih, but if they stayed too far away from the translation, it would have been inaccurate. Alright, that being said, the movie itself was a bit drawn out, and the martial arts was great until they went running on the trees (I completely lost it there). It's a good movie, but it's hard to sit through. It's definately not for everyone. If you can't handle reading subtitles, can't handle artsy kung fu sequences, can't handle bizarre love stories, or don't like movies made in other countries, DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE. Otherwise, if you don't mind, it may be something that's worth watching. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDA misunderstood film. This story is based on an old Chinese tale. . .yes, the flying is something you have to look past but our legendary tale of Paul Revere is just as fictional. CTHD is one of most beautifully shot films I have ever seen. Incredible cinematography, decent acting, terrific fight scenes. But it is simply a beautiful film to watch- the scenery, the costumes, the locations are just phenomenal. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDIf any film can be credited with bringing back the magic and mysticism of the motion picture within the last few years, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is it. It is very beatuiful, very eloquent. It is respectful when it must be, and it is rough when it must be. The performances are first-class, Ang Lee's direction is definately Oscar-worthy (he should have won, but Soderborgh was tough competition) and it is all-around fantastic. As Joel Siegel put it, "One of the greatest movies ever made!" ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI was completely blown away by this beautiful and brilliant film. Certainly a great martial arts film, but also drama. You learn to cheer it's so great. The fight scenes are sheer genius. In bambo trees, nightime in a villiage. Far superior to "Gladiator", which took the Best Picture award 2001 Oscar night. This film was incredibly entertaining, beautiful, and, just, great. See it.Summary: A BEAUTIFUL, ENTERTAINING, WONDERFUL FILM. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDThe action scenes were extremely well choreographed. The storyline presented in this segment of the whole story *yes this is not the full story, this is just a small part* was not the greatest selection but it did leave an aura of mystique as it did not give total closure (i.e. the guy from the desert and the girl who stole the sword get married at the end in actuality) and one thing that irked me is that they never really explained the tiger and dragon part [tiger = guy from desert, dragon = girl who stole sword (only using these terms for relativity to movie)] ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI have to say i enjoyed Ang Lee's Mythical,expectation-confounding Chinese adventure immensely. Some thought the gravity-defying roof-top and tree-top sequences preposterous,(they do require suspension of disbelief but no more so than many Hollywood action movies where the "hero" narrowly avoids a multitude of bullets and bombs, defeating evil single-handedly),while some martial arts purists wanting a Bruce-Lee style demonstration may be disappointed.Crouching Tiger is not merely a martial arts movie;it's a slice of rich, magical romantic escapism, set in motion by the theft of a legendary sword. It brings together 2 of Asia's finest,Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh, both extremely engaging and suitably noble in their opposition to scheming witchcraft. The film opens out beautifully into the spectacular Chinese landscapes which have long inspired my imagination.Special effects, cinematography and camerawork are first-rate,while vivacious young Zhang Yiyi is a revelation. The distinguished British critic Gilbert Adair signed off his Sunday newspaper column, having fallen in love with her!I was glad to see such strong female characters in leading roles. The film pushed all the right buttons for me(if not for everyone):though i've seen numerous better or more meaningful "foreign language" films, the Oscar success was deserved.Anyone whose appetite for such martial arts adventures has been whetted may want to check out King Hu's extraordinary A Touch of Zen(1969),which fellow Taiwanese Ang Lee,among others, admires enormously.Of Far-Eastern films in general,i'd most strongly recommend the trio of quite awesome Japanese masterpieces,Sansho the Bailiff (Mizoguchi),Seven Samurai(Kurosawa)and Tokyo Story (Ozu). ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDthose who haven't seen it:it's overhyped, but worth looking at. it's got love and fighting up the wazoo, and a worthwhile plot with some extremely admirable heroes, and some villains who range from naughty to annoying. the fighting is basic wire fu, but with some more ambitious settings than the typical "guys flying around" movies from china, and the aforementioned plot and characters to *try* to lend it all some epic sweep. give it a chance.those who have seen it:was that love story between the little thief girl and her kidnapper the most cumbersome and distracting thing ever? who cares about her little episode with the helsinke syndrome? wouldn't you rather have seen the more mature characters, the master and the older babe who loved him get it on? it might have tainted their purity, but face it, nothing, and i mean nothing, could redeem that little tramp for killing chow yun fat's guy. i'll give her this, when yeoh beats up all the would-be apprentices in the bar with the master's sword, and in the process pretty much takes out the bar itself, and when she took her own life at the end, the movie's magic came through to me. i have to give it 5 stars, despite some strained bits. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDVery good indeed. It was not only a wonderful story, with more than the one simple hollywood-trick, it was composed in a way that gave harmony to it. Clear shots and clean colours... I felt good watching it.Of course, it was terribly sad.And at the time of watching it, I would not have wanted the Li Mu Bai story to end in that fashion, but I suppose the movie would not have been as good if it hadn't.A good film, because every time I see it, I notice new things. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDThe movie had an interesting story, the acting was overall good, and the special effects and stunts were generally passable, although there was a bit too much of a cartoon/Matrix feel that dominated much of the fight scenes. While the fact that the characters seemed to possess the ability to fly was explained by Asian myth/legend, and I have heard that movies like this are all the rave in other countries, I think that the flying around the treetops fighting and the indoor flying fight scene may have been overdoing it a bit for us here in the states. I don't think that the movie could have ended well any other way-- it would have been fairly lame for Chow Yun Fat's character to have received the antidote and been cured "just in the nick of time." I loved the fact that the movie used subtitles instead of dubbing, which I think has a tendency to distract from the movie (because of the fact that I feel the whole way through like the picture and sound are out of synch.) Overall, I give it a 4, because, while I enjoyed the flick, I don't think it lived up to all the hype. Not a waste of time or money to watch, but also not a masterpiece in my opinion. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDWhat is the big deal everybody makes over this movie? I saw it for the first time a few months ago, and was not impressed in the least. I didn't rent it on purpose: I happened to find the DVD lying on the street in my neighborhood, and instead of being the good neighbor and returning it to the store, I watched it. The DVD had a feature where I got to watch it in English and not be subjected to the misery of subtitles. Still, with it being free and with no subtitles, it took me two nights to watch it. When they began flying through the air I thought maybe it was a fluke, because that special effect didn't really go with the rest of the movie. One of the more positive comments I can make is that the acting wasn't the shabby stuff I'm so used to seeing in those, uhhhhh..... martial arts films. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI guess I didn't see the actual Tiger as it was crouching in the movie...but I enjoyed the movie none the less. Perhaps it happened while I got up for more popcorn. I dunno. As for understanding the techniques and cinematography in this motion picture, I think they enhanced it greatly using the approach they did.The old Bruce Lee movies were my favorites. Because they showed the feareness of real martial arts. Bruce was an awesome fighter...! Since then the only Chinese actor to come along who even comes close to Bruce Lee is now...Jett Lee.Jackie Chan is an 'entertainer' and holds way way back in actual martial arts violence and devasting destruction as a result of using the ancient ways of the Chinese warriors. He's ok as an actor tho.Regarding Crouching Tiger tho, they seem to stay with the ancient ways and history and they maintained keeping my interest through out. Some traditional Chinese Martial Art Movies can become rathe tedious at times is my point.I enjoyed this one...! Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI was distresssed to see people on this comment board who didn't like the "flying" of the characters. The idea that martial artists can expand their "ki" (Japanese name for "energy") or "chi" (Chinese name) and achieve magical powers is a very old myth in Asian literature and film. People who say they didn't like Lee's movie because it included Chinese legend are simply too ignorant to know what that legend is, or what the study of chi gong is, or is for. Americans can be soooo quick to judge other culture's traditions, myths and legends! The First Amendment allows Americans to say whatever the want, but doesn't protect the rest of us from people saying what they like or don't based on their ignorance.... ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI saw this film some months ago and decided to wait awhile beforefinally deciding what I really thought about it. I had a lot of people I respect "blown away" by the film. Problem is, even after reflecting long on the merits of the picture, it was just not my cup of tea. In all fairness, the massive positive hype put forth by the movie critics and mediamade it "hard" for the film to live up to expectation. I liked visually what I saw, but, I did not get the religious experience that a lot of people did. For me, it just didn't translate very well to my western mentality. For sheer enjoyment I'll take "Gladiator". ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDIf I had seen "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" when it first came out, I would have been impressed. As it was, unfortunately, all the relentless hype raised my expectations far too high. Yes, the martial arts scenes and special effects are entertaining to watch, but they aren't revolutionary. Didn't "The Matrix" already break that ground? Still, the acting was solid, and I enjoyed the story, which had a timeless, mythic feel. Given that the plot was generally conventional, I especially liked the unconventional, ambiguous ending. Overall, if you haven't seen "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," it is worth renting, but don't go in expecting a masterpiece. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDoverall, this movie was pretty damn good. although, having to read the subtitles distracted you from juding things like the acting and the screenplay. it had beautiful visuals and enticing fight scenes. but the love story between the two kids wasn't holding the movie together like it was apparently supposed to. instead of doing that really drawn-out flashback of their history, why couldn't they have done a flashback of chow yun-fat's history with jade fox? since that's what the story was based on. i totally appreciate the focus on the strength of the of two main women, but i think if chow yun-fat and jade-fox's characters had been developed a little more, it would've been a little more complete. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDThis is more than just a movie. It's a visual masterpiece. The desert scenes are truly spectacular. The audience when I saw this picture actually started to applaud shortly after the film began. This is truly one film that must be seen on the big screen. I have not been so moved by the beauty of a film since David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDExhilarating Entertainment, particularly the opening fight scene between two women on the rooftop that took my breath away. It is a tossup between this and Gladiator as to which is BEST PICTURE of the year. This has everything in it -- action sequences never before put on film, two love stories, mysticism, teen rebellion. Ang Lee himself described this as "Sense and Sensibility" with martial arts. People don't realize that Lee brought together some of the greatest talent in the world. Michael Yeoh, who should have been nominated for an Academy Award, and Chow Yun Fat, are not only the biggest stars in Asia but have appeared in big American studio movies. The man who choreographed the fight scenes has been called the best in the business for his work on "The Matrix", but what he has done here goes way beyond that. And all of the lines in movie, delivered in Mandarin, had to be learned from scratch by ALL the actors, none of whom knew the language previously. See it and believe it. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDDon't think that you won't enjoy this because it is one, a foreign film or two, a martial arts film. Ang Lee is the director of Ice Storm and Ride With the Devil both high profile American movies. He is also the director of Wedding Banquet/Eat Drink Man Woman/and Pushing Hands. He knows character, action, story and cinematography. Crouching Tiger is a Chinese fairy tale come to life. I loved it. You will believe that man can fly. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDIt all depends on your style of movies on wether you like this movie or not. But what can not be argued is that this movie is flawless in every aspect. The acting was great and the directing couldn't be better. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has many scenes in which you would only see in comic books such as fighting on tree limbs, flying off rooftops and running up walls. This wasn,t done with phony graphics or real cheesy attacks it was done with style and grace. Very well done movie and despite what others say about this movie this should be nominated for the best movie of the year. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI have no idea why there has been so much hype surrounding "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." The mildly entertaining story revolves around a magical sword that is stolen and the people who try to retrieve it. There are two love stories going on at the same time, so the plot feels a bit convoluted and drawn-out in spots. In fact, my husband (who claims that he really liked the movie) fell asleep at least three times during the show. Another drawback is having to read subtitles. With all of the action going on, it is sometimes a struggle to read everything. The martial arts scenes are truly spectacular, though, probably warranting the price of the movie for many people. My only complaint about those scenes is that most of them are shot in the dark, making it very hard to see what's going on. The best part of the movie is how the female stars are portrayed as strong, tough, competent women. Because of that, I rated the movie a "3" instead of a "2." If you see this movie, you should definitely see it in the theater. The martial arts scenes, the fantastic scenery, and the subtitles are best experienced on the big screen. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI thoroughly enjoyed this movie - in large part because of its uniqueness. I have not had the opportunity to see a lot of films from the martial arts genre, and I have to admit, I was not expecting the depth that this movie delivered. The cinematography was amazing, the gravity defying fight scenes were possibly the best that I have ever seen, and the characters were compelling. This movie delivers comedy, romance, and action in a very non-traditional way - I don't think you will be disappointed. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDThis movie had some kick-ass fight sequences - I mean, really incredible stuff - in my opinion, even better than the Matrix. A little too much romance for my taste, but the martial arts scenes make up for it: NOTE TO MUNSON: ANYONE WHO HAS NAMED HIMSELF AFTER A DEAD CATCHER SHOULD BE CAREFUL ABOUT CALLING OTHER PEOPLE STRANGE. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI definitely enjoyed this film, but I didn't think it lived up to the hype (some called it the best movie of the year). The fight scenes were incredible and well worth the ticket price by itself. The cinematography was also quite good as some scenes took on an almost "epic" feel to them. Yet, the story just didn't do it for me. The acting seemed strong, but that was hard to truly guage since the movie was in Chinese and my Mandurain is not as good as it used to be. Overall, I would recommend this picture, but not as whole-heartedly as others might - like Benjamin, for example (by the way, is anyone else a little freaked out by this guy Benjamin. Check out some of his comments on the site and you'll know what I mean). ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI'm glad so many people think this film is "amazing", but in all honesty, Cirque de Soleil would have made an equally entertaining movie. Danielle Steel could write the story and set it against a beautiful backdrop,...wha la! In short, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, was a Crawling Snail that gave me Sleeping Eyes. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDI loved this movie!! It was even better than Karate Kid :-) The whole movie is with subtitles, so you really have to pay attention! But if you do, I think that you will find that the music and cinematography is super... and it's so romantic! :-O Benjamin. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Special Edition DVDBest movie I've seen in a while. A gripping story, beautifully shot and directed. The acting is superb, and the fight scenes are magical in every sense. There's so much depth to this film, it's hard to know where to start -- it's far more than just a martial arts movie, though the martial arts part of it is pretty fantastic. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? The story is compelling, the acting is stellar, and the direction is fantastic. Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh provide the action of The Matrix plus the romance of Titanic. TopeComparar PreciosPublicidad |
