Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...YO! Gattaca is one of my all time favorites. This is one of those well crafted films that made sense from beginning to end and kept your attention the whole way through. I think they did a good job by making the characters cold and emotionless because thats how everyone is expected to be in thier world. Even with the lack of emotion, you still felt for them in the end. I enjoyed watching Ethan Hawk's painful daily struggle just to fit in and be normal. Uma Thurman wasn't bad either. It was just a great film to me, visually, emotionally, and asthetically. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...A child is born and is tested fior diseases that he may be vulnerable to. His blood goes into a national database that keeps him from getting the job he wants. A great and realistic movie about discrimination. Only it's on a genetic level. Uma Thurman, Jude Law, and Ethan Hawke are great in this movie. Danny DeVito helped produce this movie. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...Exactly the kind of sci-fi movie I hate. Little is blown up and there is little shooting or adventure. Just a guy walking around and talking a lot. Very philosophical. Movies should entertain. I don't find introspection of humanity very entertaining. Decent acting but a very boring story. Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...I think Gattaca is one of those movies, like 2001, that is really really boring, but its developed a cult-like following of folks who love it no matter what. The truth is, this movie will put you to sleep in a minute. Hey, maybe that's why people give it a high rating, because they've never actually seen the wretched thing. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...Simply put, an AMAZING movie, probably one of the best sci-fi film, hell BEST film of the last decade. It gives a shocking and very plausible look at the "not too distant future" where people can genetically engineer their own children. Vincent, played by a very capable Ethan Hawke, is one of those who are not genetically engineered. He was born out of love, without the tinkering of scientists and their genetic manipulation. Not trying to quickly summarize the movie in a sentence or two (simply because you can't since the movie's that powerful)...but basically the rest of the movie is about his pursuit of his dream of becoming an astronaut at the space corporation Gattaca. The movie, while a bit slow at places, is an emotional and incredible ride that shows us the meaning of what it is to be human and that we can all achieve what we aspire. The music, composed by Michael Nyman is one of those musical scores that can stand on its own without the movie, though it definitely enhances the already great writing and strong performances by Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman among others. This is one of those movies have had profound impact on me. If you haven't seen it, you should go out and rent it immediately. Hell, even if you have seen it, you should go out and rent it immediately as well! You will not be disappointed. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...After talking over this movie with friends, I find that you'll either find this movie kinda strange, or you'll find it with that certain unexplicable-type feeling that only you understand. I find the movie a wonderful conception of a world with a reality twisted only enough to make a difference, but not enough to make a significant leap in viewpoint. Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...In my opinion, Gattaca is the best movie made out of the whole decade of the 90's. It has such an original script, and Andrew Nichol is now at the top of my favorite Directors list, and I base that on this movie alone. There are very few movies that I can say are perfect, but this is one of them. Anyone who hasn't seen it should go rent it immediately. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Eventually we will be able to genetically engineer our children, but there is one thing you cannot change - what you feel, what you think and what you aspire to do.Ethan's character is an 'invalid', created naturally, meant to be destined to clean up after 'valids'. He believed he could do more - and did. You can take this film as strictly being a scientific viewpoint of the future - but it goes further. Like Alice in the rabbit hole. It seems to me that people seem to miss out on one of the main issues of the film though. Eventually we will be able to genetically engineer our children, but there is one thing you cannot change - what you feel, what you think and what you aspire to do. Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...I'm not really a fan of either Ethan Hawke or Uma Thurman, but they both do a good job in this twist on Huxley's classic book "Brave New World." The movie raises some interesting, important issues in an entertaining, if predictable, way. Given that each day scientists are making huge strides in genetic engineering, the concept of pre-natal manipulation of the mental and physical characteristics of our children is becoming a reality, and we're going to have to figure out how to deal with it. If you like Gattaca, do yourself a favor and read "Brave New World." Huxley's visionary book was far ahead of its time. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

Gattaca [DVD] [Canadian Special Edition Bilingual...I am not a huge Sci-fi fan but I really got into this movie. This movie was very thought provoking. It makes you see the positives and negatives of genetic engineering. It also reminds you that it isn't far off in the future that we'll have the ability to choose what kind of child we want to have. Underrated movie that flew under the radar in the 90's. . .asks tough questions about genetic profiling that isn't really too far off. . .although the 'contest' at the end was a little too hollywood for me, a solid flick.
