The English PatientI know it won all the oscars. I know the critics got the vapors writing about it. I say avoid it at all costs. It is excruciatingly slow moving and BOOOOORING! I must add--it stinks! ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

The English PatientOne of the few films I've walked out on early on in the film. In one of the opening scenes it shows the effects of a would-be plane crash...I turned to my friend and stated "It looks like a movie set," to which he laughed in agreement. Then we see a victim from the crash laying there supposedly dead, but who doesn't even look real...So at that point we decided it was either leaving the theatre or falling asleep - we left. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? At the time, this reviewer's mother observed that there was nothing wrong about 'The English Patient' that splitting the story into three separate full-length movies couldn't cure. What exactly was it that made the Kristin Scott-Thomas character so unfulfilled in her marriage that it drove her to engage in adultery? Mere ennui, perhaps. It is not easy to grasp narrative purpose in much of director Anthony Minghella's work; a David Lean wannabe, he seems incapable of telling a story simply, including in good efforts like 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' (with good contributions by all others involved in what at the time, novelist Patricia Highsmith notwidhstanding, was an unacknowledged remake of René Clement's 'A Plein Soleil', 1960, with Maurice Ronet and Alain Delon), and lesser ones like 'Cold Mountain' - another bit of Minghella heavy going. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? The English PatientIt got a lot of pissed off people because it one Best Picture '96 over the far superior Fargo. But when you look at it, it's actually a beautiful movie. Far better than Titanic which also has a whole, we must be together forever thing, this is a realistic movie with great performances, sweeping direction and a good script. It IS overly long, I admit, but still see it.Summary: A BEAUTIFUL, LONG, WONDERFUL FILM. ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? Tope

The English PatientI remember the movie was very long, two videocasettes. I heard it's kind of an artsy movie not for entertainment. However, I fell asleep. It was boring so it was hard to be awake. The English PatientThe English Patient was good because it was beautifully made. It really makes you feel like you're there with the characters BUT I felt the credit that it got for cinimatography was overrated because a lot of those effects were used in Out of Africa (which I thought was a great movie). ¿Te ha parecido útil o inútil? The English PatientIf one is willing to wait through a few dull moments a person will see that the English Patient is one of the best movies ever made. It is a perfect combination of love lost and love found. The English PatientI can't imagine anyone besides Ralph Fiennes playing Count Almasy. He -was- Almasy, in look, in mood, in move, in tone. But then, Ralph Fiennes always becomes the role. The English PatientThis is an inteligent movie for a thinking person. If you like adolesent movies this isn't for you but if you like reality and honesty this is great.
